HORSMAN

EXPERT SPECIAL MODEL

     E. I. Horsman began making rackets in New York City in the 1880s.  In 1892 Horsman produced both flattop and oval rackets that featured the Eclipse Special, Seabright, Casino, Cleveland, and Expert models.  Horsman exited the racket business in the 1890s however some Horsman rackets were made after that by the Narragansett Machine Company

P. Goldsmith Sons Co.

Flaired Handle

 The P. Goldsmith Sons Co. was a major manufacturer of baseballs and uniforms for the major and minor leagues during the early 1900s. They also offered a wide range of other sporting goods. Their tennis rackets were manufactured by the E. Kent Company of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. E. Kent produced rackets from 1877 until 1943. At one time the company produced 1,500 rackets per day. E. Kent also made rackets for Spalding, Harry C. Lee, Slazenger, Sears, and Wilson. This racket is a perfect match for E. Kent’s Yale Model produced in 1910. The rackets main feature is its rare and beautifully flared handle

E. KENT

Lenox Model

c. 1930

 

   Elija Kent established the E. Kent Company in 1840 and began making tennis rackets in 1877.  E. Kent was a major supplier for such brands as Sears, Harry C. Lee, Slazenger, Spalding and Wilson.  Kent was one of the largest racket manufacturers in the 1920’s and 30’s turning out 1,500 rackets per day.

   This Lenox racket was featured in Kent’s 1930 catalog along with 14 other models and sold for $7.

Billie Jean King

Signature Tennis Racket

     This racket was produced from 1969 until 1974.  Its quality was on par with the Jack Kramer Auto-graph and Stan Smith Autograph rackets.  It sold for $27.50 which was a fairly expensive racket in those days.

 

This racket is personally autographed by Billie Jean King.

Jack Kramer Autograph

 

     The Jack Kramer Autograph tennis racket became the most popular tennis racket of all time and was in production from 1949 until 1984.
